Essentia is nationally recognized for providing superior diabetes care

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which emphasizes the importance of quality diabetes care, estimates that more than 38 million Americans live with a chronic disease.

Essentia Health is proud to have received the American Heart Association's (AHA) Target: Type 2 Diabetes Gold Award for our efforts to address the relationship between diabetes and the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in people with type 2 diabetes and is a leading cause of heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure, but in a Harris Poll survey of people with type 2 diabetes over the age of 45, Only half are aware of their risk or have discussed their risk of heart attack or stroke with a health care provider.

Each year, program participants apply for award recognition by demonstrating how their organization is committed to providing quality outpatient care to patients with type 2 diabetes.
