The groundbreaking T1D Illinois Gala fundraiser, to be held Saturday at Chicago's McCormick Place, will benefit type 1 diabetes research to find a cure.

CHICAGO (WLS) — A leading type 1 diabetes research and advocacy organization aims to hold a record-breaking fundraiser this weekend.

It's the groundbreaking T1D Illinois Gala.

ABC7 was joined Thursday by Executive Director Michael Mayberry and Julie Newman, a member of this year's Fund a Cure family, to talk more about the event.

The Breakthrough T1D Illinois Gala will be held Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at McCormick Place and will be hosted by ABC7 Chicago anchor Judy Hsu.
