At the beginning of the new year, many people aim to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Center for Healthy Living is a convenient on-campus fitness facility for UNMC students, offering free and valuable membership to the UNMC and Nebraska medical community and the general public.

With a range of group fitness classes, weight rooms, open gyms and an array of cardio fitness equipment, the center offers something for everyone.

For those who need additional incentives for this year's journey, the centre is offering the 2025 Kickstart Challenge. The assignments are free for members, and participants will be able to win the award by participating in eight group fitness classes by February 28th. Challenge Game Cards are available at the CFHL front desk. Group fitness classes are free to members and include:

  • Combine fitness and fun with a high energy step aerobics class set to cardiostep and Bollywood music.
  • Intense, low impact cardiovascular training on stationary bikes designed for cycling, all fitness levels.
  • The Cycling Express features intense hills, sprints and dance breaks on bikes, followed by a 10-minute cooldown for recovery.
  • HIIT (high intensity interval training). It features strength, endurance and power exercises to push participants to their limits.
  • High-energy conditioning with short, strong heart intervals, combined with muscle strengthening exercises for full body training.
  • TRX is a high-intensity training that uses the TRX strap to create full-body training and enhances strength, stamina, balance, adjustment, flexibility and overall body control.
  • It emphasizes Hatha yoga, breathing work, posture, relaxation and meditation.
  • Yin Yoga is a slow-paced class focused on holding poses for longer periods, relieving muscles, promoting work on fascia and connective tissue to improve flexibility and deeper release. Masu.
  • Slowflow yoga guides participants who slowly guide each pose, increase stretch, improve flexibility and allow time to recover.
  • The Power Pump is an altitude, low weight strength class that uses time to sculpt and tone the body under tension and muscle fatigue.

“Group exercise classes are a great way to tackle your New Year's resolutions,” said Kristal Cavanaugh, exercise/fitness coordinator at the center. “Exercising with others will increase your motivation and accountability and increase your chances of achieving your goals. If you already have training companions, group classes offer fun ways to exercise together. If not, they are a great opportunity to meet like-minded people who share your fitness goals.”

The Center also offers personal training services to its members, including consultations with certified trainers to assess current fitness levels and develop tailored fitness plans. A variety of training packages are available, including 1:1 sessions, semi-private sessions, and small group sessions. Find out more about the package and pricing.
