A 5-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes received a service dog from Diabetes Dogs of America.
Easton is equipped with technology that alerts his parents if his blood sugar levels are too high or too low. He now also has the help of a service dog.
The group spent six months training Banksy to notify Easton’s parents immediately if he became unresponsive and to help Easton.
“We teach our dogs to physically jump on top of our customers, so you’ve got a 70-pound dog jumping on top of you. You’re going to wake up,” says Diabetes America. Edwin Peoples of the Dog Association said.
Service dogs like Banksy cost nearly $30,000 and are usually not covered by insurance.
A distant relative raised money to donate Banksy to Easton.
Now his family wants to pay it forward and raise thousands of dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
