Community unites for Type 1 Diabetes at Breaktrough T1D Walk, raising nearly $506K :: WRAL.com

More than 3,000 people took part in the annual Breakthrough
T1D Walk at Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek on
Sunday.

The annual and national movement helps raise money to
improve treatment and care for people living with Type 1 Diabetes, helping them
live healthier, fuller lives.

WRAL’s Ken Smith served as the emcee for the walk. Attendees
told WRAL News events like this help provide a sense of community for families
experiencing this disease.

“I think it shows newly diagnosed families and people that
have had it for many, many years that you’re not alone in this and you have a
lot of people that support you in every way, even if you’ve met them
yesterday,” said Madilyn Hunter, who participated in the walk.

Sunday’s event raised nearly $506,000.
