Dear Uncelebrity DX w/t1d… you. teeth. still. A. Hero. – Diabetesdad

Dear Mom and Dad of T1D children,

I have a child, like you, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In fact, two of the three children have T1D, one diagnosed at age 2 and the other at age 13.

There are no other words…it sucks.
One thing I noticed is that when a celebrity, or a celebrity child, is diagnosed with diabetes, the world comes to them and offers the opinions, love, advice, prayers and good wishes of the pacified dol. Books can be filled with all the posts in the social media world. What their children wonder. How brave are they? A wonderful love to share with the world about a child's newly diagnosed illness. The child is declared a hero. And most of the written words surrounding them say the same thing.

There's nothing wrong with this, but I want to be clear. Children diagnosed in the poorest areas of the town, the poorest areas of town, the poorest areas of town, are paid by the government because families have zero means of paying any of the bills and are facing the same fear and the same pain. Few people know moms and dads. That child is just as heroic as the first child we mentioned.

How many people asked, “What can I do in the huge world of diabetes?” “How can I make a difference? Am I just one?”
Well, today is your lucky day. This is the way.

When you visit your local hospital or pediatric endocrinology office and hear someone at the front desk at Doc's Office or Pediatric Warn that a newly diagnosed or newly diagnosed child is coming, they are calling or texting you. With a little text, Susie came and was diagnosed today. You drop the stuffed animal for Susie and the stuffed animal for notes for parents: I'm very sorry to hear about Susie's diabetes diagnosis. The stuffed animal is for Susie. The tissue box is for you. We were there. 🙂 Know this and believe it. It'll get better. If you want to speak honestly, feel free to call us, Joyce @(333)333-3333.
Trust me, you will change their world.
I'm a diabetic dad.
