Franciscan Health Michigan City returns to local churches to teach diabetes education.
The hospital plans to restart its fan-out diabetes initiative in April.
This free, faith-based program, consisting of diabetes education, prevention and detection workshops, will be offered after Sunday services at predominantly minority church congregations in LaPorte County. Parishioners can learn more about chronic diseases, get tested for diabetes, and get help with insurance coverage.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Fan Out Diabetes coincides with National Minority Health Month in April. It is a national effort to address the health disparities afflicting minorities through awareness, education, early detection, and disease management.

The Mishawaka-based health system’s hospitals will offer sessions at High Praise Outreach Ministries, 301 E. 9th St. in Michigan City, on April 7 and 28 from 12:30 p.m. You must attend both sessions.
Workshops will be presented by Franciscan Health Michigan City, MHS, CareSource, MDWise, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Michigan City Chapter, Indiana Black Expo, Inc., and Cover Kids & Families of Indiana. I’m supporting it. These are held as places of worship trusted by minorities to accommodate people and achieve better health outcomes.
Michigan City Franciscan Health will also offer summer and fall sessions at other churches in Michigan City and Kingsford Heights.
