MSU Extension to host fall diabetes education lunchtime series

Topics covered include diabetes basics, controlling blood sugar levels through diet, meal planning, physical activity, and more.

According to the American Diabetes Association, more than 37 million Americans have diabetes and one in two has diabetes or prediabetes. If you or a caregiver has diabetes, join this free series of virtual presentations from MSU Extension to learn about important aspects of prediabetes or diabetes management. While these sessions are open to everyone, they are especially helpful for adults who have diabetes or prediabetes, or know someone who has prediabetes. Each virtual lunchtime session will cover a different topic.

  • Understanding diabetes better
    November 5, 2024
    Join us as we discuss how to be proactive about your diabetes and begin the self-management process. Learn common diabetes terminology and types, how the disease affects the body, and how diabetes is diagnosed.
  • Type 2 Diabetes Basics: Controlling Blood Sugar Levels with Diet
    November 12, 2024Diet is a key factor in managing type 2 diabetes. This presentation will cover the basics of blood sugar management and discuss different approaches to monitoring carbohydrate intake. We will discuss different food groups, intake amounts, and carbohydrate amounts, and answer frequently asked questions.
  • Smart Food Choices to Help Prevent and Manage Type 2 Diabetes
    November 19, 2024Meal planning can be hard work and sometimes frustrating. Our team breaks down the process step by step, starting with food choices that support your health goals, identifying ways to shop for healthy food while keeping your budget in mind, and ending with ideas and tips to make grocery shopping less stressful.
  • Keeping moving: demystifying being active for type 2 diabetes prevention and management
    November 26, 2024We know how important physical activity is for our health, but there are obstacles that keep us from staying active. Learn how to address these obstacles and discover different types of physical activity and options to stay active for your health goals. Have a little fun with chair yoga during your presentation.
