November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and November 14 marks World Diabetes Day — a time to learn about diabetes, a condition that affects over 38 million Americans. In Arkansas, about 13% of adults have diagnosed diabetes.
Here in Baxter County, the most recent data shows that approximately 11.7% of adults are living with diabetes — a rate influenced by our county’s older population and rural setting.

Healthy Holiday Tips
The holidays can be tough when food is the focus, but planning ahead makes a big difference:
Eat smaller portions and use smaller plates.
Have a light snack if your meal will be later than usual.
Choose your favorite foods instead of sampling everything.
If you want dessert, share it or eat fewer carbs during the meal.
Take a walk or play a game with family after eating.
This November, let’s raise awareness, support those living with diabetes, and make healthy choices together in Baxter County.
