UF Health expert discusses World Diabetes Day, weighs in on holiday meals

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – November 14th is World Diabetes Day.

Courtney Puentes, Program Manager at UF Health Diabetes Education & Nutrition, spoke to TV20 about diabetes awareness, tools and resources, and dealing with diabetes around the holidays.

As far as holiday meals for anyone dealing with diabetes, Puentes says keeping your blood sugar regulated can become increasingly difficult.

She recommended eating breakfast, having snacks available, filling your holiday plate with protein, and getting some movement in after the big meal.

Puentes touched on technology in diabetes; she said, continuous glucose monitors and insulin pumps are very helpful tools.
