Abstract

Diabetes is a long-term metabolic disorder characterised by hyperglycaemia that, if not well controlled, can damage the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys and nerves. This final article in our four-part series on the pathophysiology of diabetes explains long-term diabetes-related complications and the key role of remission in improving health outcomes in type 2 diabetes.
