SPRINGFIELD, IL (WAND) — A invoice Students and families can gain a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes by heading to the Illinois House floor.
The Illinois State Board of Education and the Department of Public Health are required to create informational resources about the disease and display those materials online.
Sponsors said that although more than 30,000 children nationwide have type 1 diabetes, many children and their families do not know the symptoms or treatments.

“The number of children with factors contributing to type 1 diabetes is increasing and it is important that children and their parents better understand the warning signs so that children can contact their doctor and take action if necessary. We believe that is the case,” said Congresswoman Michelle Massman. D-Schaumburg).
Public and charter schools could also be required to provide information materials to parents when enrolling their children.
Senate Bill 3473 passed unanimously out of the House Education School Curriculum and Policy Committee and now moves to the House floor. The plan previously received unanimous support in the Senate.
