WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital offers classes to teach patients ways to better manage their diabetes. Class participants learn how to use a glucose meter, how to manage high and low blood sugar, healthy eating, and other ways to live successfully with diabetes. Classes are interactive, and questions are welcome. Topics covered include:

· Class 1 – What is Diabetes? / Diabetes Management / Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia / Goal Setting.

· Class 2 – Healthy eating / reading labels / special occasions.

· Class 3 – Medicines / Diabetes complications / Healthy behaviors / Travel and emergencies.

· Class 4 – Activity and Movement / Emotions and Diabetes / Practical Applications.

· Class 5 – Healthy Coping/Getting Back on Track. Class 5 is scheduled 2-3 months after the completion of classes 1-4.

WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital's Diabetes Self-Management Education Program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association for quality self-management education. If you have questions about your diabetes benefit coverage, please contact your insurance company (class billing code is G0109).

A physician referral is required before attending your first class. A Diabetes Education staff member will contact you directly. If you do not have a phone number, please call (717) 270-7927.
