Weiping Jia and colleagues at the Sixth People’s Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine in China conducted a study to investigate the relationship between the complexity of glucose time series obtained from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and deterioration of blood glucose levels. The methodology of this study included a post hoc analysis of a multicenter CGM study conducted in China from 2007 to 2009, including 756 subjects with complete CGM data. The results of this study have implications for clinical practice in diabetes management, as the complexity of glucose time series calculated using RCMSE analysis may serve as a new marker of glucose metabolic status. This may not only aid in early detection and management of diabetes, but also provide insight into the glycemic characteristics of patients with IGR.

Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of glucose dynamics and insulin function in relation to diabetes and its progression, providing potential avenues for future research and clinical applications.
