Initiatives to promote chronic disease prevention through increased education, awareness and support – launched during National Kidney Month

denver, March 11, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Today, the American Diabetes Association ® (ADA) and DaVita (NYSE: DVA), a leading provider of kidney care services, are partnering to develop multiple initiatives focused on advancing chronic disease prevention, specifically addressing diabetes, two of the most prevalent chronic diseases in the United States. We announced the expansion of our partnership over the next year. and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The kickoff of this expanded initiative coincides with National Kidney Month, when both organizations redouble their efforts to increase kidney health awareness and education.

Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability worldwide. US.[1] More than 38 million Americans live with diabetes, and approximately 1 in 3 American adults with diabetes has CKD.[2] Because CKD symptoms are often mild and undetected, it is important for individuals to understand their risk factors and take the necessary steps to protect their health.

As part of this expansion, DaVita made additional contributions. $1.5 million Strengthen ADA efforts targeting individuals at risk of or living with diabetes and CKD, promoting highly local and culturally relevant awareness and engagement, especially within higher-need communities The focus is on doing.

Diabetes and CKD disproportionately impact many communities of color, including Blacks, Hispanics, and Latinos. Two organizations discover new ways to raise awareness in underserved communities, address disparities and barriers to care, and reduce clinical bias to improve health equity I am dedicated to making it happen. This effort includes developing educational materials in multiple languages, learning about individuals’ cultural backgrounds regarding lifestyle and dietary considerations, and identifying barriers faced by these communities.

ADA and DaVita work together to:

  • Create a digital home base with new educational materials that are easily accessible to patients and healthcare professionals.

  • Pilot a Registered Dietitian (RD) program to improve access to diabetes education and resources to ensure RDs are well-informed to better care for their patients.

  • Sponsor ADA diabetic condition A high-priority market event where DaVita and ADA leaders will lead discussions on some of the most important topics facing common patient populations in today’s healthcare system.
