The Dorothy Marie Kinnard Foundation will host its fourth annual FunFitness dance exercise event on Saturday, June 8th.

The Dorothy Marie Kinnard Foundation (DMKF) will host its 4th Annual FunFitness Dance Workout at Camp Widjiwagan (Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center), 3088 Smith Springs Road, Antioch, Tennessee, on Saturday, June 8th from 11am-3pm.

The purpose of the event is to promote health and wellness in the community by spreading diabetes awareness and helping individuals learn how to better manage and/or prevent diabetes. This year's pre-Juneteenth FunFitness theme is “Do Right: Mind, Body & Soul,” focusing on empowerment to improve health and wellness and doing the right thing to get healthy. Country soul music artist Shae Nycole will perform her #1 iTunes hit single “Do Right,” and attendees will come together to spread awareness for diabetes, the seventh leading cause of death in the country.

This year's event will feature a variety of fun activities, including healthy cooking demonstrations and tastings, health and wellness vendors, free food, prize giveaways, and an appearance by the Fat Boy Basketball League. The event is free and open to the public, with plenty of convenient parking.

“The Foundation is excited to host our fourth annual FunFitness event and is committed to spreading awareness of diabetes prevention through our organization's mission,” said President and Founder Leah Kinnard. “Diabetes disproportionately affects people of color, so the Foundation is taking a 'hands-on' approach to promoting awareness and education among this group.”

According to the American Diabetes Association, over 37 million people currently have diabetes and 96 million are at risk of developing it. Additionally, diabetes is a leading cause of death, and 1 in 10 people have diabetes and 1 in 4 are at risk of developing it.

Sponsors for this year's event include HCA Healthcare/TriStar Health, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, WeGo Public Transit, Fleet Feet and 92Q Radio.
