The Kansas State River Valley Extension will offer four nutrition presentations in March focused on ‘Heart Healthy Eating for High Blood Pressure.’ This free four-part program will take place on March 3rd, 17th, 24th, and 31st at the Clay County Medical Center from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. each day.

Kaitlin Moore, Nutrition, Food Safety & Health Agent, said while the program is geared toward people with high blood pressure, it is also a good program for those without high blood pressure.

“This series is great for people living with high blood pressure, but it’s also good for anyone who might have an interest in doing more for their heart health or is interested in how to eat heart-healthy.”

“It was originally developed with people living with high blood pressure in mind.”

Moore will be speaking on many topics, including reducing sodium intake, heart-healthy ways to cook meals, and more.

“These presentations are going to cover how sodium might impact one’s blood pressure. We’re going to talk a lot about cooking with various herbs and spices and how to reduce the amount of sodium in the diet.”

“We’re also going to be talking about the difference between saturated fats and unsaturated fats.”

“We will also be talking about, if you’re eating away from home, how to make the heart healthiest choices you possibly can.”

Moore will offer a taste-testing of heart-healthy recipes for attendees to sample.  Interested patrons are asked to pre-register for a food count.

To register, contact the Clay County Extension office at (785) 632-5335. Contact Moore at the Cloud County Extension office for additional information.
