MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- A local surgeon is stressing the importance of healthy weight management and the long-term risks tied to poor diet and inactivity.

Danny Vaughna surgeon with Atrium Health Navicentjoined 41NBC News to discuss why so many people struggle to maintain a healthy weight. Vaughn said unhealthy diets — particularly the overconsumption of processed foods — are a major factor, noting that Americans are constantly surrounded by fast-food options.

According to Vaughn, poor weight management can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, diabetes, and joint problems. He emphasized that maintaining a healthy weight requires a balance of proper nutrition and regular exercise.
