Cheyenne, Wyo. — Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins has issued a proclamation declaring November 2025 as Diabetes Awareness Month in the City of Cheyenne, recognizing the growing impact of diabetes on residents and the importance of prevention, education and community support.

The proclamation was signed and presented at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center on Oct. 20, 2025.

Diabetes is a chronic health condition that affects more than 38 million Americans, including thousands of residents in Cheyenne. It remains a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, lower-limb amputations and blindness. Approximately 8.7 percent of Wyoming adults and 9.9 percent of adults in Laramie County have been diagnosed with diabetes.

The prevalence of diabetes continues to rise across all populations, with Type 1, Type 2 and gestational diabetes affecting individuals of all ages, races and backgrounds. The proclamation emphasizes the importance of early detection, education and access to medical care and lifestyle support to prevent and manage diabetes and its complications.

Organizations such as the American Diabetes Association, local healthcare providers and community advocates continue to work together to raise awareness, provide resources and support those affected by diabetes.

Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and local partners will observe Diabetes Awareness Month with educational programs, screenings and outreach efforts throughout November to encourage healthy living and help residents better understand risk factors and management strategies.
