PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – August is National Wellness Month!

The month encourages people to make self-care a priority, build healthy routines, and support their mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

Whether you’re focusing on hydration, movement, mindfulness, or simply slowing down, health experts say the month is your reminder to put yourself first.

They say it’s important to approach your health and self-care holistically, as every aspect of you contributes to your overall health and well-being. That can include physical exercise, healthy eating, mindfulness, stress reduction techniques, and more.

Elizabeth Dail with the Pitt County Health Department says healthy living is a more complex process than many think.

“There are numbers that people focus on — whether it be their weight or their blood sugar or their cholesterol numbers, but it’s so much more than just what you physically are. It encompasses your mental health, your emotional, your social, so pulling all those aspects together, and making it more than just ‘what’s my weight?’” Dail told WITN.
