VICTORIA, Texas – Registered nurses Hilda Ramirez and Kelly Hetherington from Texas A&M highlighted ongoing community efforts to provide free diabetes screenings and education during Diabetes Awareness Month in November. They are both registered nurses who work at the Coastal Bend Health Education Center Victoria Main Office located inside Suite 100 at 5206 N. Navarro Street.
The program welcomes individuals aged 18 and older, regardless of health care coverage or referral status, to access diabetes-related health screenings and classes provided by Texas A&M. Services include weekly diabetes classes open to the public at no charge and a special diabetes education night scheduled for November 17th.
On November 17th, free A1C health screenings will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., accompanied by food demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Both will be held at the Victoria main office. The initiative aims to raise awareness about diabetes triggers and management, emphasizing that diabetes is not solely caused by sugar consumption but can be influenced by factors like stress.
